We're getting our roof replaced soon, and I'm kinda stuck on choosing between Tamko and CertainTeed shingles. I mean, durability-wise they both seem pretty solid, but I'm mostly hung up on the looks. Our house has this sorta traditional-but-not-too-old-school vibe, and I want something that'll match nicely without looking too cookie-cutter, you know? Anyone have experience with either brand in terms of aesthetics or curb appeal? Would love some real-world opinions before I pull the trigger...

- Personally found CertainTeed colors a bit too uniform and predictable.
- Tamko had more variety, but still felt a little generic.
- Have you considered GAF shingles? Their architectural series might offer that unique-but-classic look you're after without feeling "cookie-cutter."

Went through the same shingles saga last summer—honestly, felt like picking paint colors all over again (and just as thrilling 🙄). Tamko was tempting for the price, but I kept hearing mixed reviews about durability. Ended up going with GAF architectural shingles myself, and they've held up great so far. Plus, they had a bit more character than CertainTeed without feeling too flashy or trendy. Might be worth checking out if you're still on the fence...

Yeah, picking shingles is weirdly stressful, isn't it? I almost went with Tamko myself because the price was pretty tempting, but a neighbor had some issues with theirs after just a few years. Ended up spending a bit more on CertainTeed, and honestly no regrets yet...knock on wood. But sounds like you made a solid choice with GAF—heard good things about them too. Good luck to anyone still stuck in roofing limbo, it'll be worth it once you're done.

Same here, went CertainTeed Landmark about 6 years ago—still holding strong through storms and sun. Tamko tempted me too, but heard a few too many mixed reviews. Roofing limbo's no joke though...hang in there!
