Had a similar wake-up call last spring - noticed a suspicious stain on the ceiling that seemed to grow overnight. Ignored it for a week hoping it'd magically disappear (spoiler: it didn't). Turned out, small leak around the chimney flashing. Lesson learned: procrastination is rarely rewarded in home maintenance. Regular inspections might feel tedious, but they're way cheaper than emergency repairs...and less messy too.
