Been looking into redoing our roof soonish, and I'm kinda stuck between these two newer options. On one hand, solar shingles seem pretty slick—like, who wouldn't want their roof to actually pay for itself eventually, right? But then again, I've heard they're still kinda pricey upfront and maybe not as durable as traditional materials.

Then there's these recycled composite tiles I've been reading about. Supposedly they're super durable, eco-friendly (big plus), and look pretty decent too. But obviously they don't generate power or anything fancy like that.

Honestly, I'm leaning slightly toward the solar shingles just because of the long-term savings and the cool factor (neighbors would def be jealous lol). But I dunno...maybe the composites are smarter in terms of durability and lower maintenance?

Anyone here have experience with either of these? Curious what you guys think or if there's something I'm missing.

Just went through this exact debate last year! Ended up going composite tiles and zero regrets so far. Quick thoughts:

- Solar shingles def have that cool factor, but my neighbor got them and mentioned they're a bit finicky—had some issues with installation and repairs.
- Composites feel rock-solid and look surprisingly good (better than I expected honestly).
- Maintenance-wise, composites are pretty much set-and-forget, which is nice as a first-time homeowner.

Either way, you're making a solid choice...good luck deciding!
