That hardware cloth over the downspout is honestly underrated—I’ve seen it save more than a few basements from disaster. I hear you on the gutter guards, though. I’ve inspected plenty of homes where those mesh covers just turn into leaf lasagna by November. Sometimes the old-fashioned way really is less hassle in the long run, even if it’s not glamorous. At least you know what you’re up against, right?
