Funny enough, I was worried about the same thing with my building’s older plumbing. We switched a couple of units to UF and honestly, the tenants haven’t mentioned any pressure issues. Taste-wise, folks seem happier too. Maybe it’s just certain brands or setups that cause problems?

That’s interesting, because I’ve had the opposite experience with UF in my last place—water tasted a bit “off” compared to RO, and I always wondered if it was the filter brand or maybe something weird with our pipes. Pressure was fine, but I did notice more mineral buildup in the kettle. Has anyone actually tested their water after switching? Curious if it’s just perception or if there’s a measurable difference.

Funny, I’ve wondered the same thing. When I swapped from RO to UF, my tap water tasted sharper—almost metallic at times—and yeah, way more white residue in the kettle. Never got around to a proper test kit though. Maybe it’s something with older pipes or just the filter brand like you said. Sometimes I think we notice changes more than actual problems, but who knows...

I’ve noticed the same thing with the white residue—my kettle gets that chalky buildup way faster since I switched to UF. I kinda miss how “soft” the water felt with RO, but I got tired of the slow flow and constant filter changes. I haven’t tested the water either, but now I’m wondering if it’s just minerals coming through or something else. Has anyone actually checked if UF lets more stuff through, or is it just my imagination?

That chalky stuff in the kettle is a pain, right? I switched from RO to UF last year and noticed the same thing—my coffee maker started getting that white crust way faster. With RO, I barely had to descale anything, but the slow trickle drove me nuts, especially when I was late for work. UF definitely feels like it lets more minerals through, but I’m not sure if it’s just calcium or if there’s other stuff in there too.

I did a quick test with those cheap water hardness strips from the hardware store, and the numbers shot up after I swapped out the RO for UF. Not super scientific, but it lines up with what you’re seeing. The water tastes a bit “harder” now, if that makes sense. I kinda miss that silky feel from RO, but honestly, not having to wait forever for a glass of water is worth it for me.

One thing I’m curious about—has anyone tried running both systems in tandem? Like, using UF for most stuff but keeping a small RO tap just for drinking? I thought about it, but my under-sink space is already packed with cleaning supplies and random tools. Also, does anyone know if that white residue is bad for appliances long-term, or is it just annoying? My old neighbor used to swear by vinegar soaks every month, but I’m not sure if that’s overkill.

Anyway, I’d love to hear if anyone’s actually sent their water out for a real test after switching. I keep meaning to, but life gets in the way. Maybe it’s just the minerals, or maybe there’s something else sneaking through with UF that we’re not thinking about...
