- Good points here—ICC does tend to stay ahead on tech and innovation.
- But I've seen local codes updated pretty quickly after big storms, sometimes even stricter than ICC.
- Had a project last year where local regs required extra underlayment layers after a nasty hailstorm... ICC hadn't caught up yet.
- Makes me wonder, has anyone run into situations where following ICC first actually caused issues with local inspectors later? Curious how common that is.

Yeah, had something similar happen to me—thought I was being proactive following ICC guidelines, only to have the inspector give me that "you shoulda known better" look when local codes were stricter. Felt like getting busted by my math teacher for using the wrong formula, lol. Makes me wonder, do inspectors ever cut folks slack if you're clearly following ICC standards but missed a new local update? Or is it always "rules are rules"?

Inspectors cutting slack? Rarely seen it myself. Usually they're pretty firm on local regs, even if ICC hasn't caught up yet. But honestly, better a strict inspector now than dealing with callbacks after the next storm...
