RE: If underlayments could talk: which one would outlast the others?
Honestly, I’ve thought the same thing. We used one of those “60-day” synthetics on a job last fall and after just a week of rain and wind, it looked like it’d been through a war. Didn’t fail, but you could see it was get...
RE: Clearing roof mess: DIY or hire a pro?
I hear you on the fir needles - those things are relentless. I tried a mesh gutter guard a couple years back, thinking it’d be a game changer, but honestly, the needles just wedged themselves right in and made cleaning e...
RE: Ventilation in new builds - are we overlooking something important?
Yeah, I hear you on that. My uncle’s place is a newer build - super tight, all the fancy insulation and seals. He had to get a dehumidifier after his windows started sweating every morning in winter. No mold yet, but it’...
RE: Roofing near the ocean - did you know salt air eats metal?
That’s the part they never put in the real estate brochures, right? “Enjoy ocean breezes and a full-body workout maintaining your flashing.” I can relate to the Frankenstein roof edge - mine’s got so many mismatched patc...
RE: Paying in chunks as you go - smart move or risky business?
Had a similar situation once, but honestly, even being upfront didn't totally smooth things over. We had a homeowner paying in chunks, and when the delay hit (wrong color shingles delivered - classic), they got pretty un...
RE: Roof shingles that actually hold up in crazy wind?
Honestly, I've seen some of those high-rated shingles still peel off in storms that weren't even close to 130 mph. Had a job last year where the homeowner insisted on these premium shingles rated for hurricane winds, and...
RE: Eco-friendly roof upgrades that won't break the bank
Yeah, I get your hesitation. A buddy of mine tried sedum on his garage roof last year - looked awesome at first, super vibrant and lush. But after one rough winter with ice dams forming up there, about half of it didn't ...
RE: Best ways to protect home from extreme weather combo?
Glad the metal roof worked out for you. I've seen metal roofs hold up pretty well, but they're not bulletproof either. Worked on a house last year that had dents all over from golf-ball-sized hail - didn't leak or anythi...
RE: Is Your Roof Ready for the Next Big Storm?
Yeah, I caught that story too - pretty wild. Honestly though, I've seen roofs that haven't been checked in decades hold up just fine, and then others that were inspected regularly still end up leaking after one bad storm...
