RE: Why does cleaning up nail clippings always turn into a scavenger hunt?
I’ve seen it all - people try every trick in the book, but those clippings still end up in the oddest places. I’m convinced it’s partly static, but also just the way they shoot off at weird angles. Ever notice how they’l...
RE: Composition Roof, Roof damage from improper installation, need advice
You’re spot on about those nail pops being a red flag. In my experience, if you’re seeing them in clusters, it’s usually not just cosmetic - it’s a sign something’s off under the surface. I’ve seen folks patch and patch,...
RE: When hail meets metal: a suburban legend
You nailed it - coating isn’t magic, but it’s a solid line of defense. I’ve seen way too many sheds and even full roofs go from “just a few dings” to “Swiss cheese” in a couple seasons, especially if folks skip the maint...
RE: Would Malarkey shingles survive a solar-powered zombie apocalypse?
I’ve inspected a lot of roofs in the PNW, and honestly, moss is a silent killer. Folks think it’s just cosmetic, but I’ve seen rot set in under that “fuzzy blanket” more times than I can count. Malarkey shingles do hold ...
RE: Why does cleaning up nail clippings always turn into a scavenger hunt?

RE: Keeping algae off Atlas shingles: My quick hack
Not sure I’m totally on board with the idea that tree trimming always helps with algae. Around here (humid southeast), I’ve seen plenty of roofs still get those black streaks even after folks clear out branches. Sometime...
RE: Why does every car brand have their own weird shade of red?
You nailed it - paint matching is a losing battle most of the time, especially once the sun’s had its way with things. I see this all the time on inspections. People get so hung up on making everything look “just right,”...
RE: Choosing between attic fan setups: roof or gable mount?
Intake really is the make-or-break factor. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen folks throw a roof fan up there, only to make things worse because the soffits are clogged with insulation or just too small. All that fan...
RE: Thinking about replacing my roof - are shingles really worth it?
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve inspected roofs where folks spent a fortune on “top-tier” shingles, but the installer cut corners on flashing or skipped ice & water shield in valleys. Fast forward a couple winters, and you...
