RE: Anyone have experience with shingles that hold up against hail?
Here’s how I usually break it down for folks: if hail’s your main worry, Class 4 impact shingles (asphalt or rubber) are about as good as it gets, but nothing’s bulletproof. I’ve seen those rubber ones take a beating and...
RE: Weighing the pros and cons: full roof removal vs. just adding a new layer
You’re not wrong - layering can work out fine in some cases, especially if the first layer’s solid and there’s good airflow up top. I’ve torn off plenty of double-layer roofs where everything underneath was still in dece...
RE: When hail meets metal: a suburban legend
You’re right - metal roofs can be tricky, especially in humid spots. I’ve seen passive venting fall short in older homes with weird rafter layouts. Sometimes you gotta check the baffles or even add gable vents if the air...

That’s the thing - by the time you see a drip inside, water’s already found a path through layers of roofing, insulation, maybe even framing. I’ve seen folks wait a season or two, thinking it’s just a minor issue, and th...
RE: Confused about insurance deductibles for storm damage
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen folks lose out on claims just because they missed a tiny detail. Insurance companies really do make you jump through hoops - photos, receipts, matching materials, the whole bit. Th...
RE: how much does fixing up after a big storm usually set you back?
If you’re patching up after a big storm, the cost can swing a lot depending on what you find. For minor shingle replacement and resealing around vents or flashing, you might get away with a few hundred bucks. But if wate...
