I went with CertainTeed Landmark shingles about 7 years ago, and they've held up really well—no issues yet. But honestly, the installer spent extra time on flashing and valleys...probably made more difference than the brand itself. Either way, sounds like you're on the right track.

I've worked with both Tamko and CertainTeed shingles on different projects, and honestly, your point about installation quality hits home. Couple years back, we had two houses in the same neighborhood—one got Tamko Heritage, the other CertainTeed Landmark. Both solid products, but the real difference showed in the details.

The Tamko roof had some minor leaks around the chimney after about three years—not because of the shingles themselves, but because the flashing wasn't sealed properly. Meanwhile, the CertainTeed roof (which was installed by a more meticulous crew) hasn't had a single issue yet. So, yeah, brand matters to a point, but I'd say invest more energy into vetting your installer. Ask how they handle valleys, flashing, and ventilation—those details will probably make or break your roof's longevity more than the shingle brand itself.

Couldn't agree more about installation quality being the real game changer. I've seen roofs with premium shingles fail way earlier than expected just because the crew cut corners on flashing or ventilation. Had a client last year whose CertainTeed roof started leaking after only two years—turned out the installer skipped proper ice and water shield in the valleys. Meanwhile, I've inspected Tamko roofs that held up perfectly through some nasty storms because the installers nailed every detail.

Bottom line, both brands make solid shingles, but even the best materials won't save you from sloppy workmanship. Spend your time grilling potential installers about their methods and experience—especially how they handle tricky spots like chimneys, skylights, and valleys. A good installer will happily walk you through their process...if they dodge your questions, that's your red flag right there.

Yeah, totally agree that installation is key. Had CertainTeed on my last house—no issues at all for 12+ years, but I made sure to vet the installer carefully. Neighbor went with Tamko around the same time, and honestly, his roof looked just as good after a decade. I'd say pick whichever shingle you prefer aesthetically or fits your budget better, then spend your real energy finding a crew that knows their stuff.

Fair point, but I'd also factor in sustainability. Both Tamko and CertainTeed have decent options, but some shingles are definitely greener than others... worth considering if you're eco-conscious at all.
