Went with Tamko myself about four years ago, and honestly they're holding up fine so far. Granule loss can happen with any brand if the install isn't done properly or if ventilation is lacking. Definitely second the recommendation on ridge vents and soffits—made a noticeable difference in comfort and humidity levels in my attic too. Just make sure your roofer explains clearly how they're handling flashing around chimneys and valleys...those little details matter a lot down the road.

Did you notice any big difference in warranty coverage between Tamko and CertainTeed? I went with CertainTeed a while back—no complaints—but honestly, proper install seems to matter way more than brand name. Curious what your roofer recommends...

Warranty coverage differences between Tamko and CertainTeed aren't huge from what I've seen—mostly minor details. You're spot-on about installation though. Even the best shingles won't hold up if they're not installed properly.

If you're still deciding, here's what I'd suggest: first, check the fine print on both warranties carefully—look at coverage length, transferability if you sell your home, and what's required to keep the warranty valid (some companies are picky about annual inspections or maintenance). Next, ask your roofer specifically about their experience with warranty claims for each brand. Have they actually had to deal with Tamko or CertainTeed directly? How smooth was the process?

Personally, I've installed plenty of both brands. CertainTeed has a solid reputation for customer service and honoring warranties without hassle. Tamko's been decent too, but I've heard occasional grumbles about delays or extra paperwork. Honestly though, it usually comes down to proper install and good ventilation...those two things will save you more headaches than brand choice alone.

Went through this exact dilemma last summer when we replaced our roof. I spent way too many evenings obsessing over warranty PDFs and online reviews...my wife thought I'd lost my mind, haha.

In the end, we went with CertainTeed mainly because our roofer had dealt with warranty claims through them before and said it was pretty painless. Tamko seemed fine too, but he mentioned a couple of times where paperwork dragged out a bit. Honestly though, I think you're right—installation quality is king. Our neighbor across the street went with Tamko around the same time, and their roof looks just as good as ours does a year later. Neither of us have had issues yet (knock on wood).

My two cents: pick whichever your installer is most comfortable with and has the best track record handling warranty stuff. And maybe don't lose as much sleep over it as I did...

- Had the same debate two years ago, ended up going Tamko purely for budget reasons.
- Honestly, zero regrets so far...roof still looks solid, no leaks or issues.
- Agree 100% though—installer quality matters way more than brand.
- Warranty stuff is nice peace of mind, but good installation means you'll probably never need it anyway.
