That’s interesting—you’re right, passive vents aren’t always enough, especially with those unpredictable Midwest winters. I’ve got a low-slope roof too, and after a couple of rough seasons, I started looking into powered ventilation as well. I did notice, though, that insulation plays a huge role. Upgrading the attic insulation and sealing up air leaks made a bigger difference than I expected. Still, I keep an eye on humidity and temp swings, just in case. Sometimes it feels like you need a whole toolkit of solutions, not just one fix.

- Powered vents can help, but honestly, I see a lot of folks overlook the basics—air sealing and insulation like you mentioned.
- Low-slope roofs in freeze/thaw climates are notorious for splitting if moisture gets trapped.
- Curious—did you notice any difference in ice damming after boosting your insulation? Sometimes people add ventilation but skip air sealing, and that just pulls more warm air up from the house... not always ideal.
- For me, best results came from a combo: air seal, insulate, then vent if needed. Still, every house is a bit different.
