Every time the wind picks up, my yard turns into a dusty mess. I've been watering it down lightly in the mornings, then raking gently to keep the topsoil from blowing away. Seems to help a bit, but um...anyone got better tricks for this?

Have you thought about planting some ground cover or native grasses? I had the same issue last yearβwatering helped temporarily, but it felt like a never-ending battle. Eventually, I tried planting some creeping thyme and clover in the dustiest spots. Took a bit to establish, but now they hold the soil pretty well. Maybe worth a shot if you're tired of playing dust detective every windy day...
