We redid our kitchen backsplash last year with these slate tiles from a local store, and honestly, they looked amazing at first but now they're flaking like crazy. Not sure if it's just bad quality or what, but it's kinda frustrating after all that effort. Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue or knows some reliable brands or suppliers that don't cost an arm and leg.
Slate can be tricky—especially the cheaper stuff. Flaking usually means it's lower-density slate, which absorbs moisture and starts to delaminate over time. If you're set on slate, look for Vermont or Brazilian slate tiles; they're denser and hold up way better. Yeah, they might cost a bit more upfront, but honestly, you'll save yourself the headache (and money) down the road. Also, sealing properly after installation helps a ton...did you seal yours?
