Just thinking about this today because my friend had this happen to her—she bought a pretty expensive laptop, and literally ONE DAY after the warranty period ended, it decided to die on her. Like, completely dead. No warning signs, no weird noises or overheating, just nothing. She called customer support and they basically said tough luck, warranty ended yesterday.
Made me wonder what I'd actually do if that happened to me. Honestly, I'd probably panic first (because who wouldn't?), then I'd try talking nicely to customer service again and hope they'd show some mercy. But if that didn't work... I dunno. Maybe I'd try to fix it myself by watching a bunch of YouTube tutorials and praying I don't make things worse? Or maybe I'd just accept defeat and start saving up for a replacement (while grumbling loudly about planned obsolescence and corporate greed, obviously).
I know some people would probably go straight to social media and publicly shame the company until they caved in, but I'm not really confrontational like that. And I don't even know if it works most of the time anyway.
Curious how others would handle this hypothetical situation—would you fight it out with customer service, try DIY repairs, or just cut your losses and move on?
