So, I recently had to get my roof redone after a pretty nasty storm. First time homeowner here, and honestly, I had no idea what the heck the roofing guys were talking about half the time. Felt like they were speaking another language, you know? Flashing, soffit, fascia... sounded more like fancy pasta dishes than roofing terms to me.

Anyway, after nodding along cluelessly for a couple days, I stumbled across this online glossary thing that explained all these roofing terms in plain English. Seriously, it was like a lifesaver. Suddenly I knew exactly what the roofer meant when he said my "flashing was compromised" (turns out it's not as scandalous as it sounds, lol). And now I actually understand why they recommended certain materials and methods.

But it got me thinkingβ€”am I the only one who had no clue about this stuff? Like, is it common knowledge and I just missed the memo? Curious if anyone else has had a similar experience or if I'm just embarrassingly behind on homeowner lingo...
