Sometimes I wonder if buildings just have secret water highways we’ll never find.

That’s exactly how it feels. Has anyone tried using moisture meters or infrared cameras to track leaks? I’ve read mixed reviews—some say they’re game-changers, others claim they just add confusion. Worth the investment, or just another gadget?

I get where you’re coming from—sometimes it really does feel like water’s got a mind of its own, sneaking around in ways you’d never expect. I’ve used both moisture meters and infrared cameras on jobs, and honestly, they can be super helpful... but they’re not magic wands. The infrared camera is great for spotting temperature differences, which can point you toward damp spots behind walls or ceilings. Thing is, you need the right conditions—if everything’s already soaked or it’s a hot day, readings can be off.

Moisture meters are more direct, but you’ve got to know where to poke around, and sometimes they’ll pick up surface dampness that’s not actually from a leak. I’d say if you’re dealing with a persistent mystery leak, borrowing or renting one of these tools can be worth it. Just don’t expect them to solve the puzzle on their own. Sometimes you still end up crawling around the attic with a flashlight, muttering to yourself. That’s just part of the fun, right?
