So, last summer I got super excited about turning my boring flat roof into a lush rooftop garden. Did a bunch of research, watched way too many YouTube videos, and finally went for it. Got some drainage layers, waterproofing membranes, soil, plants—the whole deal. It looked amazing at first, and I was pretty proud of myself.
Fast forward to now, after a couple of heavy rains, I'm noticing some damp patches on the ceiling below. Ugh. I'm starting to worry that maybe I didn't choose the right waterproofing materials or maybe installed something incorrectly. Honestly, I thought I followed everything pretty closely, but you know how DIY projects can be... there's always something you overlook.
I've read about different types of waterproofing membranes—EPDM rubber, PVC sheets, bitumen-based ones—but honestly, it all got a bit overwhelming at the time. I ended up just going with what seemed affordable and easy to install. Now I'm second-guessing myself big time.
Has anyone else here done their own rooftop garden or green roof setup? Did you run into similar issues with leaks or moisture getting through? I'm kinda hoping it's just a minor fix and not something that'll require tearing everything up again. Any tips or experiences would be super helpful right now because I'm feeling pretty frustrated (and damp).
