Ladder Length Dilemma: Too Short, Too Tall, or Just Right?
Last weekend I finally got around to cleaning out the gutters (ugh, fun times), and realized my ladder situation is kinda ridiculous. I have two ladders - one that's way too short, forcing me to do some sketchy stretching moves, and another that's so tall it's a pain to lug around and set up. I ended up using the tall one, but honestly, it felt like overkill. Plus, maneuvering it around bushes and stuff was a nightmare.
I started thinking maybe there's some kind of sweet spot for ladder height that covers most household tasks without being a hassle. Like, is there a general rule or something? Or do you guys just wing it and hope for the best like me? Curious if anyone else has struggled with this or found a ladder size that's actually practical for most home projects.

Honestly, I think ladder length is less important than versatility. Have you considered one of those adjustable multi-position ladders? I switched to one a few years back...way easier to handle around landscaping and covers most heights comfortably.
I've been considering one of those adjustable ladders myself, especially since my property has some uneven ground and tricky spots around bushes. My only hesitation is stability - do you find yours feels secure enough when fully extended? I've heard mixed things about wobbling at max height, and I'm curious if that's something you've experienced or if it's more brand-specific.

Totally get your hesitation on this. I'm pretty new to homeownership myself, and ladder shopping has been a bit nerve-wracking, honestly. I've borrowed my neighbor's adjustable ladder a couple times (think it's a Little Giant?), and my yard sounds similar - uneven spots, bushes everywhere, you name it. At mid-height it felt rock solid, but at full extension... yeah, I noticed a little wobble. Nothing scary or dangerous-feeling, just something that made me slow down and be extra careful.
I wonder if that's just normal physics of extending something out that far? It might really depend on brand or build quality, too. Maybe checking out some in-store displays could help you get a better feel for different brands before committing. Anyway, good luck - I know how tricky these decisions can be!
