Hammer loop as a water bottle holder—now that’s thinking outside the box. I’ve tried the tape measure trick too, but like you said, it’s a gamble every time you bend over. I’m with you on the drill—never felt right, especially when you’re balancing on rafters or a steep pitch. Those magnetic wristbands are handy, but I still end up with a few screws in my pockets by the end of the day. As for headlamps, I haven’t found one that doesn’t leave a mark on my forehead after a long shift. Maybe it’s just the price of working in tight spaces...
I’ve definitely used the hammer loop for my coffee thermos when I’m out in the yard—beats setting it down and forgetting where it went. Tried hanging a small flashlight from it too, but that just kept banging into my leg. As for headlamps, yeah, I always end up with that weird red line across my forehead... makes me look like I lost a fight with a headband.
I thought I was the only one who used the hammer loop for random stuff... I’ve clipped my gloves through it so I don’t lose ‘em on the roof, but half the time they end up dragging in the tar or something gross. Never tried the thermos trick—doesn’t it swing around a lot? The flashlight thing sounds like a bruised thigh waiting to happen. Anyone actually use it for a hammer anymore, or am I just weird for always carrying mine by hand?
I actually still use the loop for my hammer, especially when I’m up and down ladders all day. Carrying it by hand just gets old fast, and I’d probably set it down somewhere dumb and forget it. The glove thing’s a pain though—mine always end up full of grit or worse. Tried hanging a water bottle once, but yeah, it swung around like crazy and nearly clocked me in the knee. Guess the loop’s not as versatile as folks want it to be...
Funny you mention the water bottle—I tried that once and it nearly took me out on a step ladder. The hammer loop is great for what it’s made for, but I’ve had better luck using it for things like a small pry bar or even my folding ruler. For gloves, I started clipping them to a carabiner on my belt instead. Keeps them cleaner and way less hassle. If you’re up and down ladders a lot, maybe try one of those magnetic wristbands for screws and nails? Not perfect, but it saves some trips.
