The hammer loop is great for what it’s made for, but I’ve had better luck using it for things like a small pry bar or even my folding ruler.
I hear you on the water bottle—tried that once and it just swung around too much, especially on stairs. For me, the hammer loop’s best use has been holding a painter’s multi-tool. It fits snug and doesn’t catch on stuff. I’ve also used it for a flashlight when working in crawlspaces. The carabiner trick for gloves is solid; I do the same with safety glasses sometimes. Those magnetic wristbands are handy, but if you’re dealing with a lot of fasteners, I still find a small pouch more reliable.
Painter’s multi-tool is a good call—never thought of that. I’ve actually used the hammer loop for my voltage tester when rewiring outlets, since it’s slim and easy to grab. For gloves, I just tuck them through the loop if I’m in a hurry, but yeah, carabiner’s more secure. Those magnetic wristbands are cool in theory, but I always end up dropping screws anyway... Maybe it’s just me.
I’ve jammed my chalk line in the hammer loop a bunch of times—way easier than digging through pockets for it every few minutes. Ever tried hanging a utility knife there? It’s not perfect, but when you’re up on a steep pitch and don’t want to lose your grip, it’s better than nothing. About those magnetic wristbands, I get what you mean—
—same here. Half the time the screws just stick to each other instead of the band. Anyone found something that actually keeps fasteners handy without being a pain? Those magnetic wristbands are cool in theory, but I always end up dropping screws anyway...

That’s exactly my experience with those wristbands—they’re more of a hassle than a help. I’ve tried clipping a small pouch to my belt for fasteners, but then it swings around and dumps everything if I bend over. Has anyone figured out a way to keep screws or nails handy that doesn’t involve digging through pockets or chasing them across the roof? Maybe something that attaches right to the hammer loop itself?

Same frustration here. What I do is slide a short strip of magnetic tape inside the hammer loop itself. It holds a handful of screws or nails right where I can grab them, but they don’t end up all clumped together like with those wristbands. Not perfect, but it’s one less thing to chase after when you’re up on a ladder.
