I swear, every place I've lived has had the worst attic access door imaginable. Either it's a flimsy piece of plywood that's impossible to open without it falling on your head, or it's some weird hatch that never seals right and lets drafts in all winter. Tried fixing mine last weekend and ended up with insulation everywhere...ugh. Just me having terrible luck, or is this like a universal homeowner curse?
- Can confirm, attic doors are universally terrible. Mine's this weird square panel thing that refuses to sit flush. Every winter, I swear I can feel the cold air just pouring down from it.
- Tried weatherstripping it once... ended up with sticky foam tape everywhere except where it needed to go. Still drafty.
- And don't even get me started on the plywood ones. Had one at my last place that was basically booby-trappedβopen it up and BAM, instant insulation snowstorm in your face.
- Honestly convinced builders just slap these things together at the very end of construction when they're tired and just wanna go home. "Eh, good enough."
- My current strategy: pretend the attic doesn't exist until absolutely necessary. Seems to be working so far, lol.
