"Personally, I prefer when they break down potential issues upfront and explain how they'd handle them."

Couldn't agree more—clear breakdowns really help me understand exactly what I'm paying for. I've had bids that looked cheaper initially but ended up costing more due to vague "extras" popping up later... transparency definitely pays off.

I get what you're saying, but sometimes too much detail upfront can be overwhelming. I've had contractors list every tiny thing that could possibly go wrong, and honestly, it made me second guess the whole project. I think there's a sweet spot between transparency and overload. Maybe just highlighting the most common or likely issues upfront and leaving room to discuss specifics as they come up works better... at least that's been my experience.

Totally get that—when I had my kitchen redone, the contractor gave me a detailed breakdown but also pointed out just a couple of common hiccups. Helped me feel prepared without panicking about every possible issue...definitely a balance to strike.

That's exactly it. When I was overseeing a roof replacement for one of our buildings, I had bids all over the place—some were detailed, others vague and suspiciously cheap. What worked best was asking each contractor to clearly outline their assumptions and exclusions. Once I had that info, it was easier to spot why some bids jumped so drastically. Definitely helps to know upfront what's included (and what's not)...saves headaches later.
