- Fair points, but I'm wondering if all the extra reinforcements are really necessary for everyone?
- Talked to a neighbor who installed panels 5 yrs ago, no structural engineer or anything fancy—just standard mounts. Roof still looks fine.
- Maybe depends more on age and condition of your roof to start with?
- Curious if anyone else skipped the extras and still had good results...

- Agree it depends a lot on your roof's age and condition.
- Older roofs or ones with prior damage might need the extra reinforcement to avoid future headaches.
- Seen jobs where basic mounts held up fine, but also a few horror stories of leaks and sagging after skipping structural checks...
- Might be worth at least getting a quick inspection first—cheaper than dealing with water damage later.

- Totally agree, inspections are key—seen plenty of roofs that looked fine from the ground but had hidden soft spots or weak decking.
- Also, keep in mind panel weight isn't huge, but wind uplift can stress older shingles and flashing...
- Quick check now saves headaches later.

Definitely makes sense to me. When I bought my first place, the inspector pointed out a couple of weak spots I never would've noticed myself—like, from the ground everything looked totally fine. And yeah, panels aren't super heavy, but I remember reading somewhere about how even small vibrations from wind can wear down older shingles over time. Better safe than sorry...might as well get it checked now rather than dealing with leaks later on.

- Good call on the vibrations—most folks overlook that.
- Panels themselves aren't usually the issue; it's the installer's foot traffic and drilling that can cause trouble.
- Seen plenty of roofs that looked fine from below but had hidden soft spots or brittle shingles up top.
- Quick inspection now beats scrambling for buckets during a storm later...trust me, I've seen it happen.
