- Good points here. Quick tip from experience:
• Always do a thorough roof inspection BEFORE solar installs.
• Check flashing, shingles, and decking integrity.
• Reinforce weak spots proactively—saves money and headaches later.
Glad your damage wasn't too severe...seen much worse cases.

Wish I'd read this thread sooner... learned the hard way when my panels went up. Thought my roof was solid until a surprise leak turned my attic into an indoor pool. Lesson painfully learned, lol.

Yeah, that's rough... Roof issues always seem to pop up at the worst times. Had a similar scare myself—luckily caught it early. At least now you're set for the long haul with both roof and panels sorted.

Glad you caught it early—roof issues can really sneak up on you. Did your installer mention anything about inspecting the roof first? Usually, a solid pre-install check helps avoid surprises down the road... Curious how they handled yours.

That's a great point about pre-install inspections. In my experience, reputable solar installers usually do a thorough roof assessment beforehand—checking for things like shingle condition, structural integrity, and potential weak spots. But honestly, I've seen some installers rush through or skip this step entirely, assuming the homeowner's roof is fine if it looks okay from the ground. Big mistake... A proper inspection can save headaches later on.

Did your installer mention anything about how they handle older roofs specifically? Sometimes older roofs need reinforcement or even partial replacements before panels go up. It's not always obvious at first glance either; I've had cases where the roof looked decent but turned out to have hidden moisture damage underneath. Curious if they brought up any of these scenarios with you or just went straight into installation details.
