"attic ventilation isn't always as straightforward as it seems"

Couldn't agree more. Thought I had mine dialed in perfectly until an ice dam showed up mid-winter. Ended up redoing the soffit vents myself—doable, sure, but took way longer than expected and wasn't exactly fun crawling around up there...

Honestly, soffit vents aren't always the culprit. Had similar ice dam issues myself, turned out insulation was uneven—cold spots everywhere. Might wanna double-check insulation before blaming ventilation entirely... learned that one the hard way.

Good point about insulation—had a similar issue in one of our buildings. Did you find it tricky pinpointing those cold spots, or was it pretty straightforward once you started looking? Always feels like a guessing game at first...

Had a similar experience myself—initially thought thermal imaging would make it straightforward, but it wasn't quite as clear-cut as expected. Sometimes insulation gaps were obvious, other times it felt like chasing shadows. Ended up cross-checking with moisture meters and visual inspections to confirm. Curious if anyone here has found CertainTeed shingles noticeably better at handling temperature fluctuations compared to other brands? Considering longevity and maintenance, is the premium worth it in your experience?

I've worked with CertainTeed shingles on multiple properties, and while they're definitely solid, the premium isn't always justified depending on your climate. In moderate regions, standard shingles can perform just as well. Good call cross-checking with moisture meters—been there myself, it's tedious but worth it in the end.
