Turns out we had some hidden water damage around the chimney area—nothing major, thankfully, but catching it early saved us from bigger headaches (and expenses) down the road. Have you looked int...

Good point about leftover shingles—I hadn't thought of that. But I'd caution against relying too heavily on extras from other jobs... batch colors can vary slightly, even with the same brand. Might be worth double-checking the color codes before committing.

Good catch on the color variations—seen that happen myself, even within the same brand. Speaking of chimney areas, did you end up needing extra flashing or sealant there, or was the existing stuff still solid?

Had to redo mine—thought the old flashing was solid until the first heavy rain said otherwise. Lesson learned: when in doubt, seal it out...cheaper than fixing drywall later.

Yeah, learned that one the hard way myself. Thought I'd save a few bucks skipping the flashing replacement—big mistake. Ended up with water stains on the ceiling and an earful from the tenants. Now I always budget extra for flashing and sealant. Honestly, it's like insurance...you hate paying for it until you actually need it. Better safe than soggy drywall, right?

Couldn't agree more—flashing is one of those sneaky details that can really bite you later. Have you also considered ventilation upgrades when budgeting for the CertainTeed roof? Proper attic ventilation can extend shingle life significantly and prevent moisture buildup issues down the line. I've seen roofs fail prematurely just because someone skipped on ridge vents or soffit airflow...ever run into that yourself?
