RE: How often do you actually get your business roof checked?
Couldn’t agree more with this. Most of the “roof emergencies” I see are just small issues that got ignored for too long. People think if there’s no waterfall in the lobby, everything’s fine... then suddenly you’ve got a ...
RE: Clearing roof mess: DIY or hire a pro?
I’ve seen more folks using harnesses and anchors lately, especially after a neighbor took a spill cleaning his gutters. It’s not as rare as it used to be, but most people still skip it for quick jobs. Personally, if ther...
RE: Switching from RO to UF membranes made my life way easier
That’s been my experience too, but I’ll admit I was skeptical at first. When I switched from RO to UF, I did a full inspection of the lines and housing - no more surprise puddles under the sink. Here’s what worked for me...
RE: Switching from RO to UF membranes made my life way easier
That’s been my experience too. Most folks don’t realize how much RO can drop pressure until they switch. I’ve seen a few setups where the RO system was actually undersized for the household, making showers a real pain. U...
RE: Would You Pick Clay Tiles for Your Roof or Something Else?
That’s a good point about the truss specs - people don’t always realize just how much heavier concrete and clay tiles are compared to asphalt. I’ve seen rafters start to sag after someone swapped out shingles for tile wi...
RE: How do you keep your gutters from turning into leaf soup?
Foam inserts are basically mulch factories once the pine needles start dropping - totally agree there. I’ve seen mesh do a bit better, but it’s still not a set-and-forget thing. What I usually tell folks is: first, trim ...
RE: Composite Shingles vs. Asphalt: Which Would You Trust Over Your Head?
Seen this a bunch - composite can hide issues way too well. I inspected a place last fall where the owner had no clue about a slow leak until mold started showing up in the attic. With asphalt, you usually spot curling o...
RE: Best ways to protect home from extreme weather combo?
That’s true, but I’d argue that even with perfect transitions, if your attic ventilation isn’t dialed in, you’ll still get moisture problems. I’ve seen folks obsess over flashing and caulking, then ignore ice damming fro...
RE: Trying to pick a shingle that won’t cook my attic - Malarkey worth it?
That’s the key right there - ventilation does way more than shingle color alone. Lighter shingles help a bit, but if you don’t have enough intake and exhaust vents, heat just builds up. I’ve seen folks spend big on “cool...
