RE: Switching from RO to UF membranes made my life way easier
- Had the same issue with scale even after switching to UF - just not as bad. - - Can vouch for the softener making life easier, especially with older pipes. - Tried polyphosphate once... honestly, more hassle tha...
RE: Composite Shingles vs. Asphalt: Which Would You Trust Over Your Head?
- Felt’s definitely got a track record. I’ve seen it outlast some synthetics, especially on jobs where the roof sat open for a while before shingles went on. - Synthetics are lighter and easier to handle, but I’ve had a ...
RE: Just got a roof inspection PDF that's straight outta sci-fi
- Those inspection PDFs can be wild - sometimes I wonder if the camera lens is smudged or if it’s just a weird shadow. - You’re right, zoomed-in pics make a world of difference. - I’ve had homeowners panic over what ...
RE: ROOFING NIGHTMARE: IF YOU COULD ONLY PICK ONE NAILER...
- Totally get it - cold weather just kills those triggers. - I keep my old coil nailer around for the same reason. Heavy as heck, but it never lets me down in January. - Tried a battery nailer once on a frosty mornin...
RE: Did you know Tamko started out making roofing in a chicken coop?
- Used the Titan XT on a couple jobs last year - definitely felt thicker than Heritage. - StormFighter’s got a beefier nailing strip, but honestly, install didn’t feel that different. - Marketing always hypes up the ...

True, but realistically, how many homeowners actually keep up with that? Seen plenty of aluminum roofs near the coast corrode faster than expected because maintenance slipped... stainless might cost more upfront, but les...
RE: insurance fine print strikes again - what would you do?
- Good points all around, especially about the tree trimming. Seen way too many roofs damaged by branches that homeowners didn't even notice until it was too late. - Insurance fine print can be a pain, for sure, but from...
RE: roof vents and the mysterious midnight drip
Totally agree - patching can buy you some time, but eventually you'll probably circle back to square one. A couple things I'd add: - If you're patching around vents, double-check the seals on the vent itself. I've seen ...
RE: Found a mysterious metal roof sample... now what?
Good points on the sedum roofs - seen a few myself that turned into mini jungles after neglect. A bit of regular TLC goes a long way. Back to that metal roof sample you found... did it have any markings or labels on the...
RE: How tricky is too tricky when fixing modern gadgets?
Haha, been there. Honestly, sometimes the simpler the gadget looks, the trickier it gets. Recently had to replace a sensor on my weather station - tiny screws, fragile plastic clips...felt like performing surgery. Tech's...
RE: Found a mysterious metal roof sample... now what?
Haha, you're definitely not alone - seen plenty of roofs turned into accidental masterpieces over the years. Good news is, metal roofs are pretty forgiving, so a gentle soap wash next time should smooth things out nicely...
