RE: Would you worry about lightning if your house had a metal roof?
Ain’t that the truth. I’ve seen more headaches from leaky panel mounts than actual lightning strikes. Folks get so focused on bolts from the blue, they forget water’s a sneaky little troublemaker. Good detailing beats a ...
RE: Keeping algae off Atlas shingles: My quick hack
You nailed it - shade and tree gunk are like a gym membership for algae. I’ve seen those copper strips work, but only if the sun actually hits the roof. Honestly, you’re doing all the right stuff. Marketing loves to prom...
RE: Navigating local rules for adding a green roof: my step-by-step
Yeah, smaller towns can be a whole different ballgame. I’ve seen some city lists that look like they were last updated when disco was still cool, but then you get a place where the inspector actually picks up the phone a...
RE: Quick fix or redo: dealing with damaged aluminum flashing
Ain’t that the truth. I’ve lost count of how many “quick fixes” I’ve seen turn into science experiments after a rough winter. Sometimes you get lucky and the patch holds, but usually, water finds a way in - especially wi...
RE: how long should we honor price quotes?
Yeah, 30 days is pretty standard, but lately it feels more like "30 minutes or your money back," haha. I've seen lumber prices swing so fast you'd think they're trading stocks instead of 2x4s. Getting a detailed breakdow...
RE: Will new solar panels mess up my old roof?
Honestly, patchy roofs are underrated - think of it as abstract art for your neighborhood. 😂 But seriously, partial replacements can look decent if your installer matches shingles closely. Still, at 15 years, I'd...
RE: My Roof Check Routine Saved Me Big Time - Anyone Else Tried This?
Right? I've seen some pretty weird stuff tucked away during inspections - old photos, creepy dolls, even a random mannequin once (still recovering from that one...). Honestly though, sometimes it's best to just let the m...
RE: when do you usually tackle gutter cleaning?
Twice a year sounds good on paper, but honestly, sometimes even that's overkill. If you're in an area without heavy tree cover or crazy storms, you might get away with just once a year. I've inspected plenty of homes whe...
RE: looking for reliable tile roof brands in the US
Haha, classic move - spend big on materials, skimp on labor, then wonder why things go south. Seen it way too many times doing inspections. Honestly, warranties can be hit or miss. I've heard some companies honor them wi...
RE: Is It Just Me or Do Underlayments Never Last as Long as Promised?
Had a similar experience myself - spent hours laying down this supposedly "premium" underlayment in my own basement. Followed every step, taped seams, the whole nine yards. Fast forward a year or two, and it felt like wa...
