RE: How I dodged a payday loan disaster
You’re not kidding about the paper vs. digital headache. Last year, I tried to go “fully digital” with my receipts and contracts - felt pretty slick until my phone died at the worst possible time (right in the middle of ...
RE: Getting attic airflow right: my step-by-step for better roof health
That’s pretty much my experience too. I slapped in a ridge vent thinking it’d be a silver bullet, but nope - my attic was still a sauna until I drilled in more soffit vents. Here’s my step-by-step: 1) count your existing...
RE: How do you keep your gutters from turning into leaf soup?
Tried those foam inserts last fall under my ancient silver maple. At first, I thought I’d finally outsmarted the leaves... but by November, the foam was basically a mulch lasagna. Water pooled, and I swear I saw mushroom...
RE: Quick fix or redo: dealing with damaged aluminum flashing
That’s the truth. I learned that the hard way last spring - decking looked solid until I stepped on it and nearly went through. Ended up replacing a whole section because I trusted my eyes instead of poking around. Lesso...
RE: Keeping rust at bay when you're near the ocean

RE: Is It Just Me or Do Underlayments Never Last as Long as Promised?
Gotta admit, synthetic underlayments are pretty solid, but honestly, I've had decent luck with good ol' felt paper. Sure, it's like the flip-flop in your analogy, but hey, flip-flops have their moments - cheap, easy, and...
RE: Roof checkups saved me big bucks - anyone else?
Haha, flat roofs are definitely masters of deception. Another sneaky spot I've run into is around vent pipes and skylights - those rubber seals dry out quietly over time, and before you know it, you've got a mystery drip...
RE: warranty fine print - what should I watch out for?
Good call on checking with independents directly. I learned to watch out for vague terms like "routine maintenance schedule." Had one warranty voided because I missed a single annual checkup - yep, just one. Now I circle...
