When to DIY vs Hire a Professional

I've been thinking about upgrading my PC cooling setup myself—watched a bunch of tutorials, seems straightforward enough. Basically, remove old cooler, clean off thermal paste, apply new paste, install new cooler. But then I remembered hearing somewhere that opening your stuff or modding it yourself can mess up the warranty. Kinda hesitant now, don't wanna end up stuck if something goes wrong later. Anybody here know if that's actually true or have any tips to avoid issues?
