Last summer, the heat was absolutely brutal, and our AC bills were through the roof (no pun intended, lol). So I decided to try something new to keep our house cooler. Did some research and ended up applying a reflective coating to our roof myself. It wasn't too complicated, but it did take a bit of prep work.
First, I cleaned the roof thoroughlyβgot rid of dirt, debris, and all that stuff. Then I patched up any cracks or leaks I found. After everything dried completely, I applied a primer specifically meant for roofs. Once that was set, I rolled on two coats of a reflective elastomeric coating. Took me a weekend, but honestly, it made a noticeable difference. Our attic temperature dropped quite a bit, and the AC didn't have to work as hard.
But I'm no expert, and I'm wondering if anyone else has tried something similar or maybe has a better method? I'm all ears if there's an easier or more effective way to keep the heat out.
