Had a similar situation in one of my rentals—a 60s split-level. We added insulation thinking it’d fix everything, but turns out a disconnected bath fan was dumping humid air right into the attic. Once we sorted that, temps and moisture balanced out fast. Ever run into hidden vent issues like that? Sometimes it’s the stuff you don’t see that causes the biggest headaches.

Man, you nailed it—those hidden vent issues are sneaky. I’ve seen more attic headaches caused by rogue bath fans and kitchen vents than by storms, honestly. Folks always think it’s the insulation or the roof, but sometimes it’s just that one duct dumping moisture where it shouldn’t. Sorting that out can make a night-and-day difference. Glad you caught it before mold or rot set in... that stuff’s a nightmare to fix. Sometimes it really is the little things behind the drywall that cause the biggest messes.

Seriously, this hits home. I was convinced my attic was just poorly insulated, but turns out a disconnected vent was dumping warm air up there all winter. Never would’ve guessed it without poking around. Glad you caught yours early—mold is no joke.

Man, I feel this. I once spent a whole weekend crawling around up there, convinced I needed more insulation, only to find a bathroom fan vent just blowing straight into the attic. Who knew one loose clamp could make the whole place feel like a sauna? Mold’s no joke for sure... but neither is the smell when you finally fix it.

That’s the thing—folks always jump to insulation, but half the time it’s just bad venting or a duct popped loose. I’ve seen more mold from bathroom fans dumping into attics than from actual leaks. First step I always take: check every vent and pipe before adding anything else. Saves a lot of headaches (and weird smells) down the road.
