"Honestly, the noise reduction surprised me—especially during storms."

Interesting you mention the noise reduction... I've always leaned toward cellulose myself because of its eco-friendly angle and how well it fills those awkward gaps. Fiberglass batts might be easier to handle DIY-wise, but I've heard from friends that even small gaps can really compromise their effectiveness. Makes me wonder if the slight convenience is worth the trade-off in performance?

Also curious—did you notice any immediate impact on your energy bills after switching? I've been considering an insulation upgrade myself, but I'm still weighing whether blown-in cellulose would justify the extra hassle compared to batts. Noise reduction sounds like a nice bonus though, especially if you're in a storm-prone area.

I've worked with both cellulose and fiberglass over the years, and honestly, fiberglass batts aren't as finicky as people make them out to be. Sure, gaps can be an issue, but if you're careful during installation, they're pretty effective. Cellulose is great, but I've seen it settle over time...which can reduce its R-value. Just something to keep in mind.

Yeah, agreed on fiberglass being easier to handle. I did my attic with fiberglass batts last summer, and honestly, the noise reduction was noticeable right away—especially during heavy rainstorms. Haven't tried cellulose myself, but my neighbor did, and he mentioned the settling issue too. Seems like fiberglass is a solid choice if you're careful during install and want something that'll hold up without much fuss.

Totally agree about fiberglass being straightforward, but I've found cellulose can actually outperform fiberglass slightly in sound dampening—if it's installed densely enough. The settling issue is legit though; seen it firsthand on older jobs. Curious if anyone's tried combining both materials? Like fiberglass batts with a cellulose top layer... might balance out the pros and cons?

- Did fiberglass batts last spring—definitely cut down attic heat, but noise dampening wasn't as impressive as I'd hoped.
- Neighbor went with cellulose, and yeah, his place seems quieter during storms. But he mentioned the settling too... seemed annoyed by it a year later.
- Combining both might be interesting, but sounds like extra work (and extra $$) for uncertain payoff.
- Personally, I just threw down some old carpet remnants over the insulation as a quick fix. Surprisingly helped muffle rain noise a bit. Not pretty, but hey, cheap fix that works for now...
- Might revisit cellulose when budget allows, but not convinced yet it's worth the hassle.
