I've had this old slate roof for years now, and honestly, it's been a bit of a love-hate relationship. Beautiful to look at, sure, but man...the maintenance can be a headache. One thing that kept happening was random slates slipping out of place after storms or heavy winds. Got tired of climbing up there every few months.
Anyway, my neighbor (who's way handier than me) showed me this neat trick: copper hooks. Basically, instead of trying to nail the slate back in place—which usually ends badly—you slide these little copper hooks under the slate above and hook the slipped one back into position. No drilling, no cracking tiles, and it actually holds pretty well.
It's not perfect, but it's saved me from calling the roofer every time there's a gusty day. Curious if anyone else has tried this or has other tricks up their sleeve for dealing with slate roofs?
