"Now he's a believer in looking at the roofing system as a whole rather than relying solely on product warranties or marketing claims."

Exactly, roofing really is a whole-system thing. Even the best underlayment won't perform if ventilation and drainage aren't dialed in. I've seen similar issues where homeowners blame the product, but it's usually installation or overlooked details. Also, climate matters a ton—what works perfectly in Arizona might fail quickly in Seattle. Always gotta factor in your local conditions...

As a first-time homeowner, I was pretty skeptical about all the roofing hype too. When we bought our place, the inspector mentioned something similar:

"Even the best underlayment won't perform if ventilation and drainage aren't dialed in."

Turns out he was right. Our neighbors had issues within a few years because their attic ventilation was off—not the product's fault at all. It's easy to blame materials, but usually there's more to it... Good reminder to look at the bigger picture.

- Had similar doubts initially—thought the underlayment was just marketing fluff.
- Installed a pricey, eco-friendly option... still had moisture issues within 3 years.
- Turns out, attic ventilation was inadequate; fixed that and no problems since.
- Agree it's tempting to blame materials first, but usually there's more going on behind the scenes.
- Lesson learned: even quality products can't compensate for poor installation or overlooked details.

Yeah, you're spot-on about the overlooked details part. I can't tell you how many times I've inspected homes where folks thought they had faulty materials, only to find something else entirely causing the issue. Ventilation's a biggie—it's like the unsung hero of a healthy home. Glad you sorted it out though... always satisfying when the fix turns out simpler (and cheaper) than expected. Good reminder for everyone to look beyond just product quality.

- Totally agree on ventilation being underrated... learned that the hard way myself.
- Thought my underlayment was junk until I realized moisture buildup was the real culprit.
- Added some vents and a dehumidifier—problem solved, thankfully.
- Definitely pays to look at the bigger picture before blaming materials.
