So I'm redoing the floors in my kitchen and narrowed it down to cork underlayment vs foam. I've heard cork lasts longer, but it's pricier. Foam seems cheaper and easier to install...but does it wear out faster or something? I don't wanna redo this again anytime soon, you know. Anyone have experience with either one holding up better over time?
I've mostly worked with roofing underlayments, but from what I've seen on job sites, cork does seem to hold up better over time. Foam is definitely easier on the wallet and quicker to install, but I've noticed it can compress and lose its cushioning after a few years, especially in high-traffic areas like kitchens. Cork, on the other hand, seems to keep its shape and insulation properties longer, even though it's pricier upfront.
One thing I'd wonder about is moistureβkitchens can get pretty damp with spills and humidity from cooking. Does anyone know if cork or foam handles moisture better long-term? Seems like that could make a big difference in durability too...
