I once found a roofing nail in my sock drawer a month after a job—still have no clue how it got there. You think you’ve got them all, then the lawnmower finds one for you. It’s like they multiply when you’re not looking.
It’s like they multiply when you’re not looking.
That’s the truth. I’ve done post-reno sweeps with magnets and still found nails months later, usually in the weirdest spots. Ever tried those rolling magnetic sweepers? They help, but nothing’s foolproof. How do they end up everywhere except where you expect?
I swear, nails have some kind of teleportation ability. After one of our units got new floors, I was still finding stray nails in the laundry room months later—nowhere near where the work happened. Those rolling magnets are handy, but I’ve managed to step on a rogue nail or two even after using them. At this point, I’m convinced they’re hiding out just to mess with us.

- Not sure if it’s teleportation or just bad luck, but I’ve had nails show up in my boots weeks after a job.
- Rolling magnets help, but they miss stuff in corners or under appliances.
- Sometimes I wonder if socks are secretly collecting them for revenge...
- Honestly, I think static cling and shoes dragging them around is more likely than magic. Still annoying either way.

That’s been my experience too. I actually started using a handheld shop vac with a crevice tool for those tricky spots—seems to pick up what the magnets leave behind. Static cling is real, but sometimes it’s just plain old gravity and awkward angles making cleanup tough.
