Yeah, attic ventilation's a sneaky one—good call. I'd also give the gutters a quick peek. Had a job last month where clogged gutters backed water right under the shingles... talk about a surprise indoor waterfall. Not fun.

Yep, gutters get overlooked a lot. Couple other sneaky spots to check:
- Flashing around chimneys and vents—seen plenty of leaks start there.
- Moss buildup too... traps moisture, eats away shingles quicker than you'd think.
Roof maintenance is all about catching things early, saves headaches later.

Yeah, learned this the hard way myself. When we moved into our first place last year, I figured moss was just a cosmetic thing—little did I know it was quietly munching away at our shingles. Ended up spending a weekend carefully scraping it off (tip: use a gentle brush or you'll do more harm than good). Afterward, I applied some zinc strips near the roof ridge. Rainwater runs over them, distributes a small amount of zinc down the roof surface, and keeps moss from coming back. So far it's working pretty well.

Also, totally agree on checking flashing around chimneys. Ours looked fine from the ground but up close it had gaps I could fit my fingers into. A quick reseal with roofing sealant saved us from potential leaks later on. Roof maintenance is definitely one of those "ounce of prevention" things... better to spend an afternoon now than deal with water dripping onto your couch later, trust me.

Good tips on the zinc strips, never knew about those... is there a specific type or brand you'd recommend? Our roof's got some moss starting and I'd rather deal with it now than wait till it's a bigger problem.

Installed zinc strips last spring after noticing moss creeping up on our shingles. Quick thoughts:

- Didn't stress much about brands, just grabbed whatever was mid-priced at the local hardware store.
- Make sure they're wide enough (mine were around 3 inches), narrower ones might not be as effective.
- Placement matters—put them near the roof peak so rainwater carries zinc down evenly.

Been almost a year now, and moss growth has noticeably slowed. Worth the afternoon spent climbing around up there...
