Just spent the afternoon carefully prying up some asphalt shingles to check and fix a pesky leak. Was honestly pretty nervous I'd end up cracking or tearing them, you know how brittle they can get, especially if they're older. Watched a couple YouTube vids, grabbed a flat pry bar, and took my sweet time. I mean slooowww. Kept gently working the edges bit by bit, and surprisingly, they popped up without breaking. Managed to reseal everything after the repair, and it looks like nothing even happened.

Kinda amazed it went this smoothly tbh, considering I've never really done this before. Feels good to dodge the bullet of replacing shingles completely. Curious if anyone else has had luck with this kinda thing or if I just got super lucky this time?

Nice job getting them up intact, that's definitely not easy. But honestly, resealing older shingles can sometimes be a temporary fix at best. I've seen plenty of cases where folks thought they dodged the bullet, only to have leaks pop back up after the next big storm. Not saying that'll happen to you, but keep an eye on it—especially if your shingles are already brittle. Might save you from a bigger headache down the road...

Yeah, gotta agree there. I patched up some older shingles on my place last spring, thinking I'd bought myself a couple more years easy. Then we got hit with a nasty storm in August and sure enough, water found its way back in. Not saying your fix won't hold up—sounds like you did solid work—but definitely keep tabs on it. Older shingles can be sneaky like that...
