thinking about switching to OC ridge cap shingles, saw this news story...

Was scrolling through some home improvement blogs earlier and stumbled onto a news bit about Owens Corning ridge cap shingles. Apparently they're supposed to hold up better against wind damage and leaks, but you know how marketing goes - everything sounds amazing until you actually try it. I'm kinda skeptical...anyone here actually installed these recently? Curious if they're really worth the extra bucks or just another hyped-up product.

Yeah, that's usually how it goes with new roofing products. I've inspected a few homes recently that had OC ridge caps installed, and honestly, they seemed pretty solid - definitely better wind resistance than standard shingles. But whether they're worth the extra cash...depends on your area's weather and your budget, really.

Haha, ain't that the truth. I've installed OC ridge caps on a few roofs lately - here's my quick take:
- Definitely tougher against wind than your average shingle. Had a customer jokingly tell me his roof survived a storm that knocked over his grill... priorities, right?
- Installation's pretty straightforward, no weird surprises or extra headaches.
- But yeah, they're pricier. If you're in tornado alley or hurricane central, probably worth it. If your biggest weather threat is squirrels throwing acorns... maybe not so much.
Bottom line, they're solid, but don't expect miracles. Like anything else, they're great until they're not.
Good points there, but honestly, I put OC ridge caps on my place last year and haven't noticed much difference. Maybe I'm lucky or just haven't had a big enough storm yet... jury's still out. At least they look decent, I guess?
