Been there myself—it's always the tiny spots you overlook that cause the biggest headaches later. Had a similar issue on an older shed roof; tried patching first, but honestly, it felt like playing whack-a-mole. Ended up replacing the worst sheets altogether. Sometimes biting the bullet early saves more hassle down the road. Curious if anyone's found a reliable rust-proofing method that's worked long-term?

If you're dealing with rust, prevention beats patching every time. I've had decent luck with epoxy-based primers—they bond well and create a solid barrier against moisture. Just make sure you prep the surface properly, or you'll be right back at square one. And yeah, patching rust spots individually is like chasing your tail... amusing for a bit, but ultimately pointless. Better to tackle it thoroughly once and move on.

Haha, that's exactly how I felt when I first started dealing with metal roofs. Speaking of prevention, has anyone here tried galvanized or coated metal sheets from local suppliers versus big-box stores? Curious if there's a noticeable difference in quality or durability over time. I've heard mixed opinions, and it'd be great to hear some firsthand experiences before diving into my next project.

I've used both local suppliers and big-box sheets, and honestly, the local galvanized stuff seemed thicker and had a more consistent coating. Big-box sheets were okay but felt thinner... maybe just me being picky, but I'd lean local if prices are close.

- Local usually has better quality control, agreed, but I've found some big-box sheets hold up surprisingly well if you're selective.
- Thickness can vary even locally—had a batch once that was definitely thinner than advertised.
- Honestly, warranty and coating type matter more than thickness alone in my experience.
- If budget's tight, don't dismiss big-box entirely...just inspect carefully before buying.
