Interesting point about the copper granules—I inspected a house last year that had shingles with copper-infused granules, and honestly, the roof looked pretty clean considering it was surrounded by tall trees. The homeowner mentioned they'd had algae issues before switching, and it seemed to have made a noticeable difference. Still, I wonder how much of that was due to the shingles themselves versus improved airflow after they trimmed back some branches.

Personally, I've seen mixed results with zinc strips. They can work, but placement and installation quality seem to matter a lot. If they're not installed correctly or if the roof pitch isn't ideal, their effectiveness drops off pretty quickly. Curious if anyone's had long-term experience with the IKO Dynasty shingles specifically—do they hold up well over time in shaded areas, or is it mostly marketing hype?

We moved into our place about two years ago, and the previous owner had installed IKO Dynasty shingles maybe a year before that. Honestly, roof still looks pretty decent, but we do get some algae buildup in the shadier spots. Makes me wonder if copper granules would’ve made a difference...

Yeah, I've wondered the same thing about copper granules. My neighbor installed shingles with copper granules a few years back, and honestly, their roof does seem to stay cleaner in shady areas. But since your shingles are still pretty new and decent-looking, have you considered just using a roof cleaner or algae treatment instead? Might be a more budget-friendly way to tackle the algae without replacing perfectly good shingles...
