"spent days reading reviews and ended up more confused than when I started."

Been there myself... honestly, some of the best subs I've worked with had pretty meh online ratings. If the face-to-face feels right, references check out, and they're responsive—could be worth a shot. How'd your meeting go?

Totally agree with this... worked with a guy last year whose Yelp was kinda sketchy, but he turned out super reliable. Trust your gut and double-check references—usually works out fine.

Yeah, ratings can be weirdly misleading sometimes. Had a plumber once whose online reviews were pretty rough, but he showed up early, finished quick, and even saved me a few bucks. Guess you never really know till they're at your door...

Yeah, exactly—reviews aren't always the full story. I've inspected homes where contractors had glowing ratings but left behind some pretty questionable work. Trust your gut and ask around locally... personal recommendations usually beat online stars any day.

Yeah, I've seen that too—great reviews online, but then you find shortcuts behind drywall or shingles nailed wrong. Nothing beats chatting with neighbors who've had work done... they'll give you the good, bad, and ugly.
