Hypothetical scenario: your roofer suggests a contractor network you've never heard of

That's a good angle to consider. Has anyone here ever found that homeowner reviews actually conflicted with what the roofer or network claimed? I mean, sometimes the official story sounds pretty solid, but then you stumble onto some random review that makes you pause... I've definitely had moments where a single homeowner's experience made me rethink my whole decision. Curious if others have run into that too.

I've definitely had those moments, but isn't it also true that some homeowner reviews can be overly emotional or biased? I mean, I've seen one-star ratings because the roofer showed up 10 minutes late... makes me wonder if relying too heavily on a single bad review could skew things unfairly. Do you all think there's a good way to balance out individual negative experiences with the overall track record?

Yeah, but isn't the whole point of reviews to capture those little details? I mean, sure, one late arrival isn't a dealbreaker, but if lateness keeps popping up across multiple reviews... doesn't that hint at a bigger issue? Maybe patterns matter more than individual complaints.

I get what you're saying about patterns, but honestly, sometimes reviews exaggerate minor issues. I've worked with plenty of contractors who might run late occasionally because they're juggling multiple projects or dealing with unexpected setbacks (weather, supplies...). Doesn't necessarily mean they're unreliable overall. I'd pay more attention to how they handle those delaysβ€”like do they communicate clearly, or leave you hanging? That tells you way more than a few scattered complaints about lateness, imo.

Fair point about communication being keyβ€”I totally agree there. But as someone who's had to stretch every dollar on home projects, I tend to be cautious when I see multiple lateness complaints. Sure, delays happen (I once had a contractor delayed because his truck got stuck in mud... true story), but patterns can hint at poor planning or overbooking. I'd probably dig deeper into those reviews to see if there's consistency in how they handle setbacks before making a call.
