I totally get where you’re coming from. I had a stack of printed docs for my last green roof permit review, and the inspector actually thanked me for making his job easier. But honestly, I wish the city would just standardize things—sometimes it feels like a guessing game. Still, I’d rather lug around a binder than risk a delay because someone wants to see a specific drainage detail or plant list.

I get the frustration with the lack of clear rules. I’m just starting this process and honestly, it’s kind of intimidating not knowing what paperwork they’ll want. Did you ever run into issues where they asked for something you didn’t have on hand?

Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from. When I did my first green roof project, the city inspector sprung a “structural load calculation” request on me halfway through. I didn’t even know what that was at the time—had to scramble and get an engineer involved last minute. Felt like every time I thought I had the paperwork sorted, they’d toss in something new. It’s kind of a moving target, honestly, but you do learn to anticipate the curveballs after a while.
