Good call on the butyl tape—I swear by that stuff. Peel-and-stick can be hit or miss, especially if there's even a hint of moisture or dust left behind. I've found that giving the surface a quick wipe-down with acetone or isopropyl alcohol makes a huge difference. Also, don't underestimate the value of a good roller to press the tape firmly into place... learned that one the hard way after chasing leaks around for weeks.
