Funny you mention the copper pipes—my uncle had a similar issue after he changed his setup, and it turned into a weekend project just chasing leaks. Did you notice any change in water pressure after switching to UF? I’ve heard some folks say it’s better, but others complain about a drop. Also, do you think the hassle with the old pipes is worth it in the long run, or would you have stuck with RO if you’d known?

Water pressure usually gets a bump with UF compared to RO, since UF doesn’t restrict flow as much. That said, if your old copper pipes are corroded or have buildup, you might still see drops. Chasing leaks is a pain, but honestly, updating those pipes now can save you headaches down the line. I’d say the hassle is worth it if you plan to stick around in the house for a while.

- Totally agree, UF made a noticeable difference for us too.

“if your old copper pipes are corroded or have buildup, you might still see drops.”

- Had this exact issue—swapped to PEX in the worst spots and pressure improved even more.
- One thing I’d add: if you’re on well water, sediment can clog up both RO and UF over time. Pre-filters help but need regular checks.
- Updating pipes is a pain, but honestly, once it’s done, you stop worrying about leaks every time you hear a drip... Worth it if you’re planning to stay put.

Swapping out some of our old copper for PEX made a bigger difference than I expected, especially in the basement where pressure was always lousy. The one thing I’m still unsure about is how often to swap those pre-filters—ours seem to clog up quicker than what the manual suggests, probably because we’re on a shallow well. Anyone else notice filter changes creeping up faster than the manufacturer says, or is that just me overthinking it?

We’re on a shallow well too and yeah, those pre-filters get gunked up way faster than the manual claims. I chalk it up to all the fine silt and random crud that sneaks in after heavy rain. Sometimes I wonder if the filter makers ever actually test in real-world setups like ours... Swapping them more often is just part of my routine now.
