A quick rinse definitely helps, but I’ve also noticed some finishes are more sensitive than others. As for gutters, maple seeds are relentless. I’ve inspected homes where seedlings were actually rooting in the downspouts... calcium buildup is annoying, but at least it doesn’t try to grow into a tree.

But I’ve had a different experience with mesh guards on gutters. Maybe it’s the type or the install, but the fine stainless micro-mesh I used actually cut my gutter cleaning down to almost nothing. Sure, some debris sits on top in the fall, but it dries up and blows off in a week or two. The trick for me was making sure the mesh is tight and slopes with the roofline, so stuff doesn’t just pile up and clog.
On calcium buildup, I kind of wish it were just an eyesore for me. In our area, it actually started restricting flow in faucets over time—enough that I had to take them apart and scrape out the aerators every few months. Not a huge deal, but definitely more than cosmetic. Guess it depends how hard your water is.

Ain’t that the truth. I swapped to UF membranes last year after my RO system started acting up—constant low pressure, and the waste water was driving me nuts. UF’s been way less finicky, and I haven’t had to babysit it nearly as much. Still get a bit of that calcium crust in the kettle, but at least I’m not crawling under the sink every month. As for gutters, I tried those foam inserts once... let’s just say the squirrels had a field day.
I’ve been debating the UF switch myself, mainly because my RO’s waste water is just ridiculous. Did you notice any difference in taste or smell with the UF setup? I’m a little paranoid about stuff getting through, but the constant filter changes and crawling under the sink are getting old. Also, calcium crust is my nemesis—have you found anything that actually helps with that, or just living with it? And those foam gutter inserts... yeah, I learned the hard way that squirrels treat them like an all-you-can-eat buffet.
